My weekend was spent mostly cleaning my room, doing the laundry and reorganizing some stuff. Little did I know it will lead me to a more profound lesson.
While mopping my veranda, I noticed that one of my potted plants died. The other three were wilting. It must be because they don’t have enough soil and the weather is too hot these days. To keep the rest from dying, I uprooted the dead one and put its soil unto the other pots then watered the plants.
This is not the first time I had a plant die because I did not have time to nurture them. I always forget to water them even if I can see them every time I go out of my room. Whenever I remember, I just pour water on them without really giving it extra care like sprinkling the water and cultivating the soil.
While I was filling the other plants with soil, I realized that it is actually a good analogy of how we sometimes treat our relationships be it with a lover, family or friends.
Sometimes, we take people and relationships for granted because we know they are just there. Sometimes we don’t make that extra effort to reach out to them because we are too busy with other things. And when we do, we do it just for the sake of doing it — talk for the sake of talking — without really giving our all. And we may not be aware but they do notice it. They know when we are not paying attention or we are distracted.
Like plants, relationships should be nurtured and cared for it to thrive. If we continue to take it for granted, it will gradually wither and eventually die. If you see it withering you are lucky, you still have the chance to save it. But what if it’s already dead?
If I have to list down the things –obviously people are not included– that I cannot live without, music will definitely be among the top 3. Not that I already know what the other 2 are but I’m pretty sure about music.
For most if not all of us, music is a great part of our life. Upbeat songs cheer us up. Love songs make us fall in love all the more. Instrumental music allows us to look deep within our souls, relaxes our minds or lulls us to sleep. Sad songs make us remember the past or the people in it and the longing for those people brings melancholy that the same songs, no matter how sad, can ease simply because it remind us of special people and wonderful memories. Religious songs can strengthen our faith and empower us to face life’s trials.
Different kinds of music create different effects and feelings in a person.
My choice of music depends on my mood. This evening I opted to listen to Christmas carols because they remind me of home and bring the spirit of the yuletide season.
Listening to music is my main de-stressing activity. But being a lover of anything artistic and beautiful, sometimes I’d prefer to watch music videos on Youtube. With millions of music videos available though, I seldom find ones that would really make me feel as if I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Omar is very good at finding really nice music videos. This one, I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz is his latest find. It may not be so nice for others but for me it is because I love letters and anything that looks vintage! And the lyrics is meaningful too 🙂
I would love to know your favorite music videos too! Feel free to share them as comments 🙂
This was written by a dear friend who will soon become a mother. Pregnancy is one very special moment in every woman’s life. Even if I’m yet to be one, I know it brings unfathomable joy. But it also comes with mixed emotions especially for those who are bearing a child for the first time. I hope this letter will bring inspiration to other mothers-to-be.

Dear my little angel,
How are you inside mommy’s womb? I hope you are doing ok as you develop and grow each and every single day. What you are going through is not easy. Mommy knows that for she is having a hard time too. But don’t worry, mommy has stopped complaining by the time she started hearing your heartbeat. She already embraced the pain and discomfort she might possibly feel while she carries you. Worry and stress has been replaced with excitement and joy.
One time she was so sick she can barely move or stand, all she did is to think of you, wondered how you would be look like. Will you have your daddy’s eyes? or mommy’s smile? She even wondered about the sound of your voice when you cry or when you laugh. And everytime she thinks of all those things she would suddenly feel better. You always make mommy feel better. Just the thought of you my little angel.
Mommy will do anything for you. In fact, she always make sure she takes her medicines on time just for you to be healthy and strong, even if it’s hard for her to swallow them. She already have your name even before you really exist. She already got an idea how to make your room up for your comfort. She wanted to buy things for you like clothes and toys as early as possible. She just don’t know where and how to start. Mommy is just so excited to see you, and daddy too.
Mommy used to be so concious about her body. She doesn’t want to grow big or fat. The thought really scares her so much. But when you came to be the reason of that changes, she embraced it without fear. All because of you baby. Everything is because of you. You are the center of her attention now–her world, her inspiration, her everything.
Though you won’t be able to read this. Maybe you will after how many years. Mommy just want you to know that she loves you very much. The love she has for you is beyond measure, beyond doubt. The kind of love she has for your daddy too.
Be strong there my little angel. We will see each other soon. Mommy can’t wait for that moment to happen.
